NURSING DIVISION

Department of Community Services

 

The Division collaborates with East Orange Health Department, West Orange Health Department, Essex County, State of New Jersey Department of Health & Senior Services, and local physicians to provide residents with health information and access to quality care.

Child Health Clinic
The child health program provides care for children ages 2 months to 6 years of age. The program promotes health and prevention of early childhood illness by providing vaccination as required by the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. Children ages 2 months to 6 years of age receive physical exams, immunizations, parental education for child rearing practices, development screenings, lead testing, anemia and referrals for other services as needed. Vaccines are also available to children ages 7 to 18 years of age.  

 

Older Adult Health Program

The Older Adults health program is partially funded by the Essex County Division of Senior Services. The program provides visiting nurse services to help older adults to maintain independence within their home and community. The program provides needs assessments, education, counseling, screening, monitoring for diabetes and heart disease and referrals for other services as needed. Older Adults are encouraged to complete a File of Life, an emergency card with emergency contacts, list of medications and medical history in case of emergency. The nurses make monthly visits to Senior Residential buildings within the township.

 

Adult Vaccine Program

The State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services have provided vaccines for uninsured adults ages 19 to 64. Available vaccines include Tetanus, Measles , Mumps, Rubella , Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV (Human Papilloma Virus ), Influenza, Pneumonia, Meningococcal (Meningitis) and Shingles.

 

Tuberculosis Control Program

The TB control program prevents and treats tuberculosis through case management, mantoux testing, chest x-ray review and medical evaluation. Health teaching, preventative therapy (medication instruction and management), and information regarding the TB disease is offered to decrease the spread. A clinic for medical evaluation is held monthly by appointment only.
