Refuse Removal Guidelines
Public Works is responsible for the collection of leaves, garden debris, and recyclables from the curbside of residences, and trash from public buildings. Garbage Garbage is waste that results from food preparation and other usual household functions, not recyclables, bulky trash appliances or scrap metal. Garbage is picked up from the curb 2 times a week, not on holidays. If you do not know your garbage pick-up days, please call the Public Works Department at (973) 266-4030. Do not place garbage for pick-up prior to 8 p.m. the night before or after 6 a.m. on your scheduled pick-up day. Garbage should be in cans or plastic bags for pick-up, not in paper bags or boxes. We do not pick up construction debris.

The removal and disposal of debris generated by home improvements projects is the sole responsibility of the property owner. We do not pick up broken concrete, asphalt, roofing shingles, dirt and rocks, sheet rock, or other items commonly referred to as construction debris.

Collection Holidays:
Garbage will not be collected on the following National Holidays:
New Year's Day
Good Friday
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas

If your garbage is usually collected on one of the days listed above, do not place your garbage out for collection. Leaf Collection Starts October 15th and ends December 15th Note: Weather and the amount of leaves to be picked up can affect the City's ability to complete the pick-ups by the above date. It is not necessary to call during leaf season for collection. There will be multiple collections during leaf season throughout the City. All leaves and/or yard waste MUST be bagged in BIODEGRADABLE paper bags only.

All branches must be cut and tied in bundles no longer than four feet in length.

Leaves CANNOT be piled in the streets at any time. DO NOT place leaves near any catch basins.
Bagged leaves should be placed for pick-up by the curb, not in the street.
Landscaping Contractors and Property Owners are prohibited from blowing any type of yard waste into the street.

Following leaf season, bagged leaves and tied brush can be picked up by appointment only. Residents on County roads must contact the County at (973) 239-3366 for leaf schedule. Landscaping Licensing All Landscaping Contractors MUST be licensed by October 1. For additional information and application, please call (973) 266-4030.
