Mayor Hawkins invites residents to apply for a vacancy on the Orange Board of Education.
This appointment will be made under Orange’s Call to Service initiative to encourage citizen involvement on local boards and commissions.

Statement by Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.

“Shortly I will be appointing a new member of the Orange Board of Education to succeed Rev. Reginald Jackson who retired from the Board effective October 12th after providing valuable and distinguished service to advance education in Orange.

Board members serve as volunteers without compensation. In filling the vacancies, I want to choose from among the most dedicated, best informed, and highly experienced Orange residents. Orange has a deep pool of qualified residents. We are conducting an open appointments process so that all qualified citizens and not just the politically-connected may apply. I invite interested Orange residents to apply for this position by November 1, the deadline for receiving applications

If you are interested in applying for the vacancies, please mail a resume and statement of your goals for education or city planning to me, Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, City Hall, 29 North Day Street, Orange, NJ 07050 or email your resume and statement to my secretary Lawanda Henry at lhenry@ci.orange.nj.us”

Call to Service was created under the Citizen Service Act (P.L. 2009, c.141) signed by Governor Corzine in October 2009. The "New Jersey Call To Service" is an initiative that recruits residents and other stakeholders to serve on a city's boards and commissions. The program educates people about the best ways to access entry level voluntary leadership positions and about how to initiate cost-saving measures. Under the Call to Service principles, Mayor Hawkins has already appointed citizens to positions on numerousboards and commissions after publicizing the opportunities through newspaper stories, website postings, and the city’s new email newsletter.
