New Natural Beauty Product Boutique Opens in Orange Spurred by Pending
Transit Village Revitalization of Train Station- Main Street Corridor

On Saturday, September 10th, Pooka Pure and Simple (“Pooka”) officially launched its first retail store called the Pooka Body Boutique in Orange, NJ. The grand opening included a ribbon cutting by Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.  The store is located at 15 South Essex Avenue in the historic Chronicle Building located between Main Street and the Orange Train Station in the heart of the pending Transit Village redevelopment..

Before opening its own retail store, the East Orange based company sold its products through Whole Foods, boutiques throughout the United States, on its own website and through a network of sales representatives. The company chose the location of its first retail store to be able to take advantage of the coming revitalization of the Tony Galento Plaza neighborhood.

The Pooka Body Boutique is a “one stop shop” for all of one’s full body needs. Pooka Pure & Simple is a handmade bath and body company owned by four African American women.  The company provides a complete line of natural products for women and men that range from Elbow Grease, a non-petroleum body moisturizer available in several tantalizing aromas like Vanilla Sand and Honey Almond, to a specialized Hair Nectar, which is designed to revitalize and moisturize hair. Pooka Pure & Simple has been in business since 2000.

The Boutique is an upscale shopping experience that easily rivals similar destinations found in trendy areas like SoHo or Madison Avenue in New York or Millburn and Short Hills in New Jersey.   The store is beautifully appointed with stunning displays atop tiered mahogany and glass tables.

Creator and founder Dawn Fitch’s passion for aromatherapy and a desire to adapt a healthy lifestyle was the inspiration behind Pooka Pure and Simple. Launching in 2002, Dawn and her team of Pookalitas, (a term of endearment coined by her mother) turned a simple idea into a successful business venture. Pooka is a family business that incorporates the owner’s parents, aunts and uncles. At the Grand Opening, there was truly an aura of "girl power" and a sense of accomplishment..

Statement by Dawn Fitch
"It was truly a spectacular event for our Pooka Body Boutique Grand Opening at the Chronicle building on 15 S. Essex Ave., in Orange, NJ.  We are truly thankful for everyone who came out to support the opening of our first retail location!  We are very proud to be new business residents in the city of Orange and we look forward to continued blessings.  We want to personally thank all our vendors who helped make this a phenomenal extravaganza!”

Statement by Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.
"Orange welcomes the Pooka Body Boutique to our community. Out of all the communities that Pooka could have chosen for its first store, they chose Orange, a city on the rise. The new venture exemplifies important parts of our development strategy. We have focused on making Orange an attractive city for entrepreneurs seeking to launch or expand their businesses. And the Transit Village redevelopment of the corridor from the Orange Train Station to Main Street is the key to revitalizing our downtown shopping district.”
