Announces
Dr. Martin Luther King/ Black History Month
 Video and Film Festival on Channel 35

Orange, NJ – Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. and the Department of Community Services, Division of Cultural Affairs announced the Dr. Martin Luther King/ Black History Month – Video and Film Festival on Channel 35.  The series entitled “Generations in Transition” will showcase videos and films on Black history, interviews with Dr. King, Malcolm X and Paul Robeson. 

Mayor Hawkins stated “I invite Orange residents to enjoy the Generations in Transitions series. For activists in the civil rights movement, these films will evoke powerful feelings and memories. For others, these films provide an education about a time in our history when people across America organized, marched, spoke out and joined together to change our nation.”

The series broadcast schedule will be every Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting Friday, January 14, 2011 through February 30, 2011 at 7:00p.m.

The Mayor and the Department of Community Services are proud to present this vintage footage and historic productions to the viewers of Channel 35.  Darrell Holcomb, Director of the Department of Community Services remarked that “besides entertainment this series highlights the achievements of the Civil Rights Movement and the many contributions of African Americans to the United States.
